CHILDLIKE HEARTS

I saw two children fighting.
They were angry as can be.
There was struggling and hitting.
And I could hear them scream.
Then I saw them moments later.
They were running down the hall.
They were giggling and playing,
Like there’d been no fight at all.
Dear Lord, give me that kind of heart.
That doesn’t hold a grudge.
A childlike heart that just forgives,
Before there’s time to judge.
That carries not the weight of pain.
O Father God, I pray.
Before there’s time for me to hate,
It simply melts away.
But grown up brains pollute our hearts.
And brothers are reviled.
Lord, give us wisdom as adults,
And hearts just like a child.
