DEAD WEIGHT

I still recall the day I died.
And my old life was through.
The day I gave my life to Christ.
And I became brand new.
I couldn’t let my old self go.
I struggled to be free.
But no matter how I tried,
I carried him with me.
He was a burden on my back.
And he began to stink.
I couldn’t seem to shake him loose.
I feared what men might think.
My Savior said, He isn’t you.
And called me a new name.
Then finally, I met my new man,
Who’s nothing near the same.
He took the dead man from my back.
The dead man disappeared.
So I began my brand new life.
My slate, and conscience cleared.
